AM in 2013 is the world’s first comprehensive chronicle of the most significant events that shaped the global Additive Manufacturing industry in 2013. It also marks the beginning of a groundbreaking series that will document each subsequent year with the same level of depth and precision.
This is the second part of a unique series, documenting year by year all the key events in the additive manufacturing industry from 2012 to 2023. Learn the history of 3D printing and uncover forgotten facts!
In 2013, Additive Manufacturing technology had officially existed for 29 years, and the industry for about 26 years. Public awareness of 3D printing was skyrocketing, largely thanks to MakerBot and Formlabs—young startups that caused a massive stir in the market in 2012.
MakerBot’s co-founder, Bre Pettis, became the new darling of tech media, which saw him as the next Steve Jobs, while 3D printing itself was hailed as a revolution comparable to the rise of personal computers in the late 1970s.
2013 in AM features:
- 82 pages capturing nearly 90 key events across 12 months
- each month features three major milestones and four to five additional highlights
- 3D printer launches: Zortrax M200, 3Doodler, SpiderBot, and others...
- breakthrough events: the acquisition of MakerBot by Stratasys, and 3D Phenix by 3D Systems, the debut of XYZprinting, ExOne and voxeljet going public, and others...
- the beginnings of the infamous and scandalous stories of Pirate3D and the Buccaneer, as well as botObjects and the ProDesk3D.
